Cleveland Browns safety Ronnie Hickman suffered minor injuries in an assault in New York City early on Monday. The Browns released a statement Monday afternoon that said Hickman, 24, was hurt at a hotel on the Lower East Side but is recovering.
“Safety Ronnie Hickman was a victim of assault early Monday morning at a New York City hotel,” the statement said. “Ronnie was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital after the incident, was later released, and is home resting with his family.”
A spokesperson for the New York Police Department confirmed that following an argument, a group of four unidentified people punched a 24-year-old in the lobby of the Sixty Les hotel around 4:35 a.m. Monday. They said the victim was treated at Bellevue Hospital, which is about a mile and a half from the hotel, matching the Browns’ description of events.
The attackers fled the scene, and nobody has been arrested in the assault. Police are still investigating.
Hickman just completed his third season in Cleveland — his first as a full-time starter — after the Browns signed the undrafted Ohio State alum in 2023. He started all 17 games last season, recording 103 tackles and two interceptions, and is set to become a restricted free agent after a breakout season. He has been a contributor when healthy in all three of his seasons.
