Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 17: Sunny Deol’s Border 2 has emerged as one of the year’s biggest Hindi film releases, driven by strong patriotic themes and a holiday opening. The war drama arrived in cinemas on Republic Day and quickly drew crowds, helping the sequel to Border convert early curiosity into major box office numbers. Released amid heavy buzz, Border 2 opened strongly and crossed Rs 200cr in its first week at the domestic and worldwide box office combined. The film then moved into a slower but stable run during its second week, before entering the third week with a comparatively muted start in theatres.

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 continues the story world created by the 1997 film Border, this time again drawing from the 1971 India vs Pakistan war. The movie focuses on key episodes from the conflict while keeping the narrative centred on the emotional cost of war for soldiers and families. Border 2 also marks Sunny Deol’s return to this franchise after 29 years, adding nostalgia for fans who followed the original film and its characters during the late 1990s.

Varun Dhawan appears as an Indian Army soldier for the first time on screen, a casting choice that drew attention before release and impressed many viewers after. The ensemble also includes Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana, giving the film a wide appeal across age groups. After witnessing a grand start at the box office, Border 2 has been struggling at the box office in the third week and failed to touch the double digit during the third weekend

To note, despite a hike in numbers, Border 2 has failed to beat Saiyaara on third Sunday. While Border 2 earned Rs 6.9cr on day 17, the number was Rs 8cr for Saiyaara.

Meanwhile, talking about Border 2 success, Anurag Singh told Bollywood Hungama, “We knew the emotions were working and were sure that audience would connect with those emotions. As far as the numbers are concerned, everyone had their guesses. I knew that the numbers would happen if the audience likes the film.”
