MUMBAI, India – 29th January, 2026: On Amazon MX Player’s Bharat Ke Super Founders, not every pitch talks about market gaps or consumer demand. Some look far beyond – quite literally – into Earth’s orbit, where a silent crisis is building at terrifying speed. Dr Chiranjeevi Phanindra, a former ISRO scientist with over 14 years of experience across some of India’s most defining missions like Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan, entered the pitch room with a vision forged at the heart of India’s space programme. Now, as Founder of Cosmoserve, he has set his sights on cleaning up Earth’s orbit, one defunct satellite at a time.
Cosmoserve is a space-tech startup focused on satellite de-orbiting, refuelling, and in-space infrastructure, which Dr Phanindra described in simple terms as “building towing vans and refuelling depots in space.” With plans to remove 100 defunct satellites by 2028, the startup aims to make Earth’s orbit safer, sustainable, and commercially viable for the next wave of launches.
Dr Phanindra’s ask reflected both the scale of the problem and the ambition of the solution. He sought ₹10 crore for 3.7 per cent equity, as part of a larger ₹45 crore round valuing the company at ₹225 crore pre-money. Looking ahead, Cosmoserve projects revenues of $40 million (approximately ₹360 crore) by 2028, with plans of raising $15 million to fuel its next phase of growth.
The tycoons weighed the risks carefully in what was one of the most technically complex pitches of the season. Ankur Warikoo initially offered ₹2 crore in exchange for 1.85%, before stepping back. Srini Srinivasan offered ₹50 lakh for 0.42%, while Shivam Mishra came in with ₹25 lakh for 0.09%. Offers came across structures and valuations, but the defining moment arrived when Dr. Velumani placed a bold bet with an offer of ₹5 crore for 2.22% equity. The Market followed with a competing offer of ₹50 lakh at a ₹108 crore valuation. In the end, Dr. Phanindra accepted Dr. Velumani’s offer along with Srini’s investment, closing a remarkable deal. As Dr Velumani summed it up succinctly, “Romance with risk. The bigger the risk, the bigger the outcome.”
Cosmoserve’s pitch captured the true spirit of Bharat Ke Super Founders, where Bharat’s ambition isn’t limited to land, markets, or metros, and where the next wave of founders may well be building solutions beyond the planet itself.
