First baseman Tyce Armstrong powered his way into the NCAA record book in his first game at Baylor by hitting three grand slams in the Bears’ 15-2 win over New Mexico State in the 2026 season-opener.

Armstrong, a senior transfer from UT Arlington, became the second Division I player ever to hit three grand slams in one game, joining Jim LaFountain of Louisville, who accomplished the feat in 1976 against Western Kentucky.

“I’m speechless. I mean, that was the most cool thing I’ve ever been a part of,” Armstrong said in the postgame media session. “I just stuck to my approach, planning on hitting the fastball hard. It’s a great feeling, for sure, and I’m hoping to keep it going, but this team is great. Best team I’ve ever been a part of. Coolest night of my life, for sure.”

Armstrong, batting cleanup, cleared the bases in the third, fourth and seventh innings and finished the game with 12 RBIs. His final home run ended the game, giving Baylor a run-rule victory.

“I wasn’t trying to do it,” Armstrong said of his approach for his final at bat. “I just got the right pitch and didn’t try to do too much.”

A redshirt senior from Magnolia, Texas, Armstrong spent four seasons at UT Arlington before transferring to Baylor in the offseason. He hit 17 home runs in his three seasons with the Mavericks, including a career-high 12 in 2025.

Baylor went 33-22 overall and 13-17 in the Big 12 in 2025. The Bears reached the NCAA Tournament 16 times from 1998 through 2019 but have not been to the postseason since.

Baylor was picked 11th in the Big 12 in the preseason in a vote of the league’s coaches.
