Alia Bhatt brought strong Bollywood presence to the British Academy Film Awards, stepping onto the BAFTA red carpet as a presenter and first-time attendee. During media interactions, Alia spoke candidly about cinema, theatre and motherhood, calling daughter Raha Kapoor a driving force in life and creative work.
Now a parent to three-year-old Raha with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia explained that family life deeply shapes artistic choices. Alia said that watching Raha dance to film songs and grow more confident has become a daily reminder of what matters most, both personally and professionally.
Alia Bhatt BAFTA appearance links cinema passion with motherhood
Discussing this shift, Alia shared that parenthood has become a powerful creative anchor. “I have to say that my true source of inspiration and magic right now is my daughter. Looking at her, you know, just bloom, and she’s three now, dancing to my song sometimes. I’m like, okay, that is life.”
Alia also reflected on how long-standing love for performing remains central despite new responsibilities. “I feel most myself in front of the camera. Being in front of the camera to me, it’s a blessing. I feel so grateful that I love my job so deeply.” The comments highlighted a balance between work and home life.
Alia Bhatt BAFTA role, category and speech on global cinema
Earlier on the BAFTA carpet, Alia was asked what keeps theatre and films so compelling. Recalling early memories, Alia replied, “I think I say this all the time, but I think I came out of my mother’s womb on action,” underlining how natural performing feels, even after many years in front of the camera.
At the ceremony, Alia joined the line-up of presenters and introduced the Best Film Not in the English Language category. Praising the field, Alia said, “A great category. And what I mean is, what incredible nominees! I think for me, one of the things that I love about cinema is that you don’t have to have one language to truly enjoy cinema. You don’t have to understand the language because what truly drives it is just emotion, and that feeling, that just sort of pulses out at you from the big screen.”
Alia described the event as a full celebration of films from across borders. “So, yeah, I’m really excited. Tonight’s the night celebrating cinema and I’m like, it’s all about the love of the movies.” The appearance came as Alia walked the London carpet in a silver gown with a dramatic fur shawl.
Questions also turned to production ambitions beyond India, including possible projects set in the United Kingdom. Alia stayed open to expanding work there, saying, “I mean, I would say put it out there. Put it out there. Put it out there, like, tonight, we’re putting it out there. Yeah, I think it’s a great night for it. Yeah, it’s the best night, actually.”
Work commitments remain packed for the year. Alia is starring in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic drama Love and War and the espionage film Alpha, centred on a female spy. Both projects add to a busy slate following international recognition, including the BAFTA appearance and recent global collaborations.
Alia’s debut at BAFTA combined a glamorous London outing with personal reflections on craft and family. From speaking about Raha as a source of “inspiration and magic” to championing cinema beyond language barriers, the evening underlined how Alia now connects career milestones with evolving life experiences.
