Baby Yoda Is Back in Star Wars

On Super Bowl Sunday, Lucasfilm dropped a new trailer for “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” the latest installment in the “Star Wars” universe, giving fans another glimpse of Pedro Pascal’s armored bounty hunter and his pint-sized sidekick in a full-scale cinematic adventure.

The trailer shows Mando and Grogu in the snow being pulled by Tauntauns in what appears to be Hoth, the icy plant from Episode 5.

Set to hit theaters May 22, the film follows Din Djarin (Pascal) and Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) as they navigate a galaxy still recovering from the fall of the Empire. According to the official logline, the story is set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, with Imperial warlords still scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect what the Rebellion fought for, it turns to legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu for help.

The film was first announced in January 2024 as the next “Star Wars” feature in development. The project builds on the success of the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” which became a breakout hit for the studio following its debut in 2019 and helped anchor the franchise’s streaming era.

Joining Pascal and the diminutive, Force-sensitive Grogu are Sigourney Weaver as a skilled fighter pilot, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta, Jabba the Hutt’s rebellious son, and Jonny Coyne as a ruthless Imperial warlord. Fans will also spot cameos from beloved “Star Wars” characters Babu Frik and Zeb Orrelios.

Director Jon Favreau, who co-created “The Mandalorian,” said previously, “Bringing Din Djarin and Grogu to the big screen allows us to explore their story in a whole new way, with the scale and spectacle the theater experience deserves.”
