Assi First Review
Taking to social media, actor turned critic Kuldeep Gadhvi stated called it a hard-hitting, thought provoking courtroom drama with bold dialogues which will leave an impact. He wrote, “Assi is a gripping courtroom drama that revolves around a series of unexplained sexual assault cases. Rather than staying limited to crime statistics and headlines, the film digs deeper into the human cost behind those numbers. It explores how truth can be buried under data, power, and perception, while an investigator and a fierce defense team fight to uncover what really happened. Taapsee delivers yet another commanding courtroom performance. She brings strength, restraint, and emotional depth to her role, holding the film together with conviction.”.
Furthermore, Kuldeep gave the movie a rating of 4.5 stars and emphasised that writing is the real star of the movie. “The writing is one of the film’s biggest strengths. The dialogues are sharp, realistic, and thought-provoking. @anubhavsinhaa handles the subject with sensitivity and control. The film never becomes preachy or melodramatic.. Assi is not just a courtroom drama it is a bold and thought-provoking social mirror. With powerful performances, intelligent writing, and controlled direction, the film leaves a lasting impact. If you appreciate content-driven, meaningful cinema, this one is a must-watch,” he added.
Meanwhile, talking about collaborating with Anubhav Sinha, Taapsee in a report in Times Of India stated, “I don’t want to bracket Anubhav Sir only with respect to courtroom dramas. I think there are a lot of things he brings to the table that makes his film feel dramatically real, almost too close to home. Whether it’s courtroom dramas like Mulk or Assi or stories like Thappa or Article 15, his storytelling has a way of presenting facts so effortlessly in front of you that sometimes, when that mirror is help up, it’s challenging to look at”.
