As Kerala’s youngest organ donor, 10-month-old baby Aalin Sherin Abraham to save four lives

Ten-month-old Aalin Sherin Abraham, who was declared brain-dead on Friday (February 13, 2026) after being admitted in a critical condition at a private hospital in Kochi, Kerala, following a road accident, will now live through four others as her parents gave their consent for donating her organs.

Minister for Health Veena George said in a social media post that she will be remembered for being the youngest organ donor in the State. The accident occurred near Pallam-Borma Junction along MC Road around 2.30 p.m. on February 5 after the car in which she was travelling with her mother and maternal grandparents rammed a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Her parents belonged to Mallappally, Pathanamthitta.

She was critically injured in the accident and was admitted to hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla. As her condition worsened, the baby was shifted to Amrita hospital here for specialised treatment. She could not be saved despite intensive efforts by doctors, according to a communication.

The organ donation procedures were coordinated through the State-run Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO) after the parents agreed to donate her organs. The baby’s donated heart valves will be sent to the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram, the liver to KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, and the kidneys to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College. In addition, the child’s eyes will be handed over to theAmrita hospital’s eye bank, according to K-SOTTO officials.
