“Masterpiece” hit “All Creatures Great and Small,” which returns for Season 6 in January on PBS, has already been renewed for a Season 7 and a Season 8. Those additional seasons will include six episodes each, as well as additional Christmas specials. The news was announced Thursday by “Masterpiece” commissioner GBH.
Playground (“Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light,” “The Hardacres”) produces “All Creatures Great and Small,” along with “Masterpiece” on PBS and global distributor All3Media International. The series, based on the books by James Herriot about a veterinary surgeon (Nicholas Ralph) in Yorkshire, premiered in September 2020.
According to the logline for Season 6, which premieres Jan. 11, 2026, on “Masterpiece,” the series “jumps forward in time to 1945. The intervening years have seen our cherished Skeldale gang somewhat scattered with James and Helen now living at Heston Grange farm, Tristan serving overseas, Mrs. Hall away and Siegfried struggling to cope on his own at Skeldale, but they gladly reunite as the war in Europe comes to a close and look forward to a peaceful future. The series brings its usual soothing warmth, humor and sense of community alongside a host of animals great and small.”
The series stars Ralph, Samuel West, Anna Madeley, Rachel Shenton, Callum Woodhouse, Patricia Hodge, Tony Pitts and Imogen Clawson. New this season are Lucy-Jo Hudson, Gaia Wise, Jonathan Hyde and Philip Martin Brown.
Playground produces the show for 5 in the U.K. and “Masterpiece” on PBS in the U.S. Season 7 executive producers include Colin Callender, Melissa Gallant and Sharon Moran for Playground, writer Neil Jones, Susanne Simpson for “Masterpiece,” Louise Pedersen and David Swetman for All3Media International and Sebastian Cardwell, Paul Testar and Greg Barnett for 5. Yvonne Francas is a producer.
“All Creatures Great and Small has found its way into the hearts of American audiences and is one of our most watched series on ‘Masterpiece,’” said “Masterpiece” head of scripted content and executive producer Simpson. 5 commissioning editor Barnett called “All Creatures Great and Small” a “jewel in 5’s drama crown,” while Playground exec producers Gallant and Moran said that “we frequently receive letters from viewers about how the show has brought joy, comfort and relief in challenging times.” All3Media International VP of scripted Lauren Jackson called “All Creatures Great and Small” a “heartwarming and enduringly popular series.”
Seasons 1 through 5 are streaming on the PBS Passport app, as well as the “Masterpiece PBS” service on Prime Video.
