Al-Ahli 4-0 Al-Etiffaq: Hat-trick hero Toney spot on twice in rout

Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick and assisted another goal in a virtuoso performance as Al-Ahli routed Al-Ettifaq 4-0 in the Saudi Pro League on Wednesday.

England striker Toney got the hosts up and running in the 17th minute, tapping home after Riyad Mahrez brilliantly took down Edouard Mendy’s long punt and unselfishly squared for his team-mate.

Jack Hendry then clumsily clattered a flying Galeno into the ground on the left of the area, and Toney coolly rolled his penalty into the bottom-left corner.

Toney skied over from inside the box just before half-time, but then showed great strength to hold off two defenders and pick out Valentin Atangana to apply the finish from range after 64 minutes.

And the rout was completed when Mohammed Abdulrahman was carelessly tripped by Francisco Calvo, allowing Toney to once more pick out the left-hand side of the goal from 12 yards and complete his hat-trick.

Al-Ahli moved second, two points off leaders Al-Hilal, who have a game in hand. Al-Ettifaq are seventh in the standings.

Data Debrief: Hat-trick hero Toney on a hot streak

Toney is a player absolutely bang in form, and he now sits top of the goalscoring charts with 18.

Moreover, he has scored in each of his past eight games in the Pro League (13 goals), representing his longest streak in the competition.

Additionally, Toney, who had a game-leading six shots, is providing for his team-mates and his four assists lead the way for Al-Ahli, along with Mahrez.

That form has helped Al-Ahli win eight straight league games.
