Atletico Madrid are in advanced talks to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta.

The 28-year-old will be the first signing of the window for Atletico, who in January sold Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo de Paul, Javi Galan and Giacomo Raspadori — the latter of whom joined Atalanta, who are currently seventh in Serie A.

Lookman has scored 55 goals for Atalanta since his 2022 transfer from RB Leipzig, having previously enjoyed loan spells at Fulham and Leicester City.

The Nigeria international was most prolific during the 2023-24 campaign where he registered 17 goals and 10 assists in 45 games.

Lookman crowned the 2023-24 season with a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, who had gone the entirety of that season unbeaten and were hopeful of completing a season treble. The Nigeria international’s goals sealed Atalanta’s first trophy in 61 years and the first European trophy in the Italian club’s history.

He followed that up with 20 goals and seven assists in 2024-25, helping Atalanta finish third in Serie A and qualify for the Champions League.

He began his career at Charlton Athletic, with two-and-a-half years at Everton before his 2019 switch to RB Leipzig.

Atletico and Atalanta have shared multiple deals in recent seasons, with Raspadori’s move to the Italian side this month following on from Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso and defender Matteo Ruggeri moving to Madrid.
