Blending romance with suspense and psychological intrigue, 56 Days is a gripping mystery crime drama that traces the story of Oliver Kennedy and Ciara Wyse, two strangers whose chance encounter spirals into an intense, all-consuming relationship with deadly consequences. As their whirlwind romance unfolds against the backdrop of a chilling murder investigation, the series thrives not only on its twists and buried secrets but on the electric dynamic between its leads, Avan Jogia and Dove Cameron.
At the heart of the show’s emotional tension is the palpable chemistry between the two, something both actors believe cannot be engineered. In fact, they reveal their connection was never tested in the conventional way. Avan Jogia, who plays Oliver Kennedy, said, “I think casting is such a big part of chemistry. Hats off to the casting director. We didn’t do a camera together.”
Dove Cameron, who essays Ciara Wyse, elaborated on their dynamic, saying, “No, you’re supposed to kind of chemistry test for shows like this. And for some reason, we didn’t. And I was like, I said 100 times before the show started. So we got the magic. But I think, like, honestly, I think that also the sort of understanding of chemistry from an audience perspective is kind of like not what it actually is. Because this is really funny, sometimes, people who are dating and they’re together off camera have the world’s worst chemistry. Chemistry is an elusive, magical, mysterious thing that just like, shows up or it doesn’t. So we didn’t do anything.”
Avan further applauded the casting team and said, “I want to compliment cast directors, because they really are more in charge of that sort of thing than we are as actors. There’s nothing we could do. I don’t think there’s anything actors can do for or against. Maybe again, maybe, maybe against you can. But like, you’re like to make that kind of thing.”
56 Days is written and executive-produced by Lisa Zwerling and Karyn Usher. James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett executive produce via Atomic Monster, with Danielle Bozzone overseeing the series on behalf of the company. Sandrine Gros d’Aillon also serves as executive producer with Catherine Ryan Howard as co-executive producer. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, and Atomic Monster, the series boasts a stellar cast featuring Dove Cameron as Ciara Wyse, Avan Jogia as Oliver Kennedy, Karla Souza as Lee Reardon, and Dorian Missick as Karl Connolly. 56 Days will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on February 18.
